Metabolisms of prolne during germ tube formation of C.albicans were studied using ATPC medium containing sodium acetate, thioproline, proline and sodium corbonate. ATGC medium which proline was replaced by glutamic acid in ATPC medium and ATKC medium which proline was replaced by α-keto glutamic acid in ATPC medium. The results obtained were as follows. 1. When C.albicans was cultured in ATPC medium for 3h, around 90% of the cells formed germ tube. However, germ tube formation of the cells was reduced to 70% when glutamic acid was added to the medium. 2. The uptake of ^<14>C-proline in the cells was reduced to 60% when glutamic acid was added to ATPC medium. 3. When the cells were cultured in ATGC medium supplemented with proline for 3h, around 70% of the cells formed germ tube. 4. The uptake of ^<14>C-glutamic acid by the cells cultured in ATGC medium was reduced to 55% by addition of proline. 5. Only 25% of the cells formed germ tube when the cells were cultured in ATKC medium. However, 90% of the cells form germ tube when proline or glutamic acid was added to the medium. 6. The uptake of ^<14>C-glutamic acid of the cells elevated about 20% when proline or glutamic acid was added to ATKC medium. 7. The distribution of radioactivities in TLC of the organic acids extracted from the cells cultured in ATPC medium containing ^<14>C-proline was the same as that from the cells cultured in GPY medium containing ^<14>C-proline.
