• Arresting periodontal disease and aiding in the regeneration of periodontal tissue can be cited as the purpose of periodontal treatment. Traditional periodontal treatment consists of the removal of the causes of periodontitis by means of plaque control, scaling and root planning, and periodontal resective surgery. It is well known, though, that recent studies have established GTR (Guided Tissue Regeneration) as a regenerative therapy, starting in the late 1980's. EMD therapy has been applied in a clinical setting since the 1990's as "the therapy of the future". Each regenerative procedure has been developed using a variety of materials and techniques designed for optimal healing. Moreover, there are also new regenerative therapies such as the use of Platelet Rich Plasma, which contains a growth factor. Implant therapy, which can achieve osseointegration, has already been recognized as an alternative procedure to using a denture or bridge. However, the current trend is foward more functional operative procedures such as bone preservation with an immediate implant following tooth extraction, and heightened awareness of the contraindication for implant surgery based on a sinus graft procedure. Also, immediate implant and immediate loading procedures are starting to be adopted more and more. I would like to discuss the essential principles, indications, and choices of proper materials for successful periodontal regenerative therapy, immediate implant surgery, sinus grafts, and immediate loading, according to my experience.
