The influence of antimony adsorption on the process of self-diffusion of tungsten was investigated by field-ion microscopy. The appearance of the {111} facets and the superstructures in vicinity of {111} crystal faces of tungsten was observed. This was caused by preferential decrease in the activation energy of surface diffusion which occurred along the <110> zone lines toward the {111} faces. This selectivity may be a result of the weakening of the bonding of terminal atoms in the atomic chains parallel to the <111> directions.
