The volatile organic compounds, permeated into highly organic soil, tend to be absorbed and retain in soil for a long period of time. Since highly organic soil having low air permeability is generally saturated with groundwater, it is believed difficult to separate the once permeated volatile organic compounds out of the soil by vacuum extraction. Based on full understandings of highly organic soil characteristics, a combination of conventional methods of well-point pumping and quicklime mixture heat treatment made it possible to complete remediation work in a short time.
