A planting method of reeds in the river shore without fences for wave was devised and its test construction was conducted. Soil and the underground stem of reed were packed in box-shaped synthetic-fibre bags and covered with erosion control sheets. Then, after being cured at the flood channel for d while, they were placed on the river shore. However, the reeds in the bags were all blasted with-in a half year. An investigation of the cause found that the method of planting reeds in the bags should be changed, that sufficient curing time is required in a humid condition and that the nutrition in the soil should be adjusted.
