Scattering losses of infrared fluoride glass optical fibers have been measured by a cubic detector in the 0.45 to 1.1 μm region and peaks at 0.525, 0.58, 0.74, 0.80, and 0.865 μms have been observed for the first time. These peaks are considered due to the photoluminescence effect by the rare earth impurities within the fiber.
