Stearic acid has three main crystallographic modifications, namely, the A-form (triclinic), and the B- and C-form (monoclinic). The gorwth rate against supersaturation is studied on the (110) faces of each modification and the relationship between polymorphism and the growth conditions is obtained for solution growth cases. Here the B- and C-form show parabolic growth rates against supersaturation but the A-form has an exponential growth rate curve.
