Structural Distortions Induced by Pseudo Jahn-Teller Effect in the Y-Ba-Cu-O System : Electrical Properties of Condensed Matter

Pseudo Jahn-Teller coupling constants are evaluated for the five-coordinated Cu^<2+> ion in the perovskite-like system YBa_2Cu_3O_<7-δ>. On the basis of the obtained results rhombic static distortions are yielded in a very good agreement with the experimental data. The resulting electronic level scheme is then discussed in connection to the problem of the superconductivity in this material.
