The proposed photon storage ring (PhSR) is composed of an electron storage ring (ESR) and a group of mirrors surrounding the electron orbit. The ESR in this case is of a type having no straight sections. In this system, synchrotron radiations are reflected back by the mirror to intersect the electron orbit again, and are consequently accumulated within the mirror. The PhSR functions like an undulator having an infinite number of periods, and thus specific wavelengths are enhanced. The wavelength is selected by the mirror radius regardless of the electron energy as long as the electron orbit curvature is kept unchanged. The generated synchrotron radiations are fully extracted through a simple opening on the mirror surface. A strong magnetic field can be introduced without any deterioration of the interference effect, which allows the radiation yield to be increased. A conceptual design of such a PhSR is described in this article.
