We demonstrate that analytically realistic and physically significant solutions for nonlinear TM modes are possible in the transverse uniaxial approximation [ε_<zz>(E^2_z)] if one resorts to working with the transverse electric field component E_z. The dispersion relation and the time-averaged power carried by the waves guided by a thin film asymmetrically bounded by optically nonlinear, semiinfinite, dielectric media are derived. The analytical and numerical diagnoses compared with the earlier results based on "Hy-treatment" reveal an appreciable difference in the results.
