The isotropic ESR dating species at g = 2.0007, produced by ionizing radiation in synthetic and biological carbonated apatites and calcium carbonates, is attributed to rapidly tumbling C0^-_2 radicals. In this paper experiments on ESR linewidth variation with temperature were caried out in order to study the rotational properties of these radicals in B type carbonated apatite and calcium carbonates. The experimental data were fitted with Dattagupta and Blume and Ayant et al. analytical models developed for radicals rotating in crystal lattice sites and in viscous media, respectively. It was verified that the viscous medium formalism gives a better description of the rotational dynamics of the radicals. Exchange interactions were found to play an important role on the C0^-_2 motional relaxation, besides the contributions from spin-rotational and motional g-tensor modulation relaxations. These results also reinforce the hypothesis that the radicals are surrounded by water molecules.
