Characterization of Y_<1-x>Ca_xBa_2Cu_4O_8 (x=0.0〜0.1) with Double Cu-O Chains by Raman Spectra

Raman spectra of Y_<1-x>Ca_xBa_2Cu_4O_8 (X=0.0, 0.02, 0.05 and 0.1) ceramic samples synthesized under high oxygen pressure were investigated. Seven clear peaks assigned to A_g modes were observed for the sample with x=0. With increasing x, the peaks at 238 cm^<-1>, 332 cm^<-1>, 430 cm^<-1> and 590 cm^<-1> were broadened. The origin of the broadening of the peaks at 238 cm^<-1> and 590 cm^<-1> is considered to be the destruction of the double Cu-O chains due to the substitution of Ca for Y.
