An architecture of optical associative memory based on 1-D incoherent correlation using an anamorphic optical system is proposed. The proposed associative memory system has a shift-invariant feature because cross correlation is used in the recording and recalling processes. Computer simulation of the shift invariance for the proposed associative memory system is described. To increase memory capacity, a position separation method is proposed. Experimental verification of autoassociation is presented.
