A simple new fabrication process for 1.5 μm Distributed Bragg Reflector Laser is proposed. A butt-junction coupling is used between the active and passive waveguide. The average pulsed threshold current of 400 μm long laser with 200 μm long 1st order grating DBR section is 10 mA. A threshold current in DC operation as low as 7.7 mA has been measured.
