Cordierite was prepared by the sintering of cordierite glass and lead borosilicate glass. With the addition of lead borosilicate glass, P_2O_5-added cordierite glass can be densified at lower sintering temperature. Owing to the flux effect of lead borosilicate glass, the coalescence of glass particles was aided by the viscous flow of the glass. Besides the advantage of lower temperature sintering, the addition of lead borosilicate glass enhances the formation of α-cordierite crystalline phase.
