Diffractive scattering of a He supersonic beam has been observed from a W(110) surface covered with carbon. The beams, of [1^^-11] and [001] azimuthal incidence angles, show diffraction peaks resulting from an ordered structure which has doubly spaced lattice spacings of the substrate W(110), suggesting a (2 × 2) structure of a quarter monolayer of adsorbed carbon.
