With a double-layered garnet film prepared on glass substrate, an excellent carrier-to-noise ratio has been achieved as high as 53 dB at 515 nm wavelength which has not been reported before for the garnet films fabricated on glass substrates. The doubled film consists of an underlayer fabricated by pyrolysis and a top layer deposited by sputtering. The underlayer was designed to accommodate small grain size by doping with Rb. The grain size of the top layer is as small as that of the underlayer and this provides a low noise level with a high carrier level.
