Reflection High Energy Electron Diffraction Study of Superstructures Induced on a Si(110) Surface by Al Adsorption

Al adsorption induces superstructures on a clean Si(110) surface. The present reflection high energy electron diffraction study has revealed two superstructures, i.e., 3x8 and (3,3)x(2^^-,1) structures. The former transforms to the latter at 780℃ during annealing. A model for the 3x8 structure is made on the basis of the analysis of characteristic intensity distribution of the diffraction spots.
