The effects of a translational temperature relaxation on the intensities of molecular beams sampled under an ideal skimming condition are evaluated against source conditions and diameter ratios of the orifice and the skimmer entrance. The beam intensity is affected more due to the existence of the skimmer when a gas-kinetic relaxation model with a realistic interaction potential is used than when isentropic and sudden-freezing flows are assumed.
