• Current-voltage characteristics in a number of polyene semiconductor manifesting compensation effect have been investigated. Ohmic behaviour has been observed in all these polyenes under the experimental condition in which compensation behavior has been reported. It has been concluded that explanation of the compensation rule in terms of a distribution of traps is unlikely to be of general importance in cases of polyene semiconductors.
