Backscattering of ^<32>P negatrons and ^<22>Na positrons has been studied as a function of target thickness in targets of aluminium, copper, tin and lead. The values of target thickness corresponding to saturation backscattering intensity are found to be independent of the nature of target and geometry of experiment but are different for negatrons and positrons. The Z-dependence of thin-target backscattering of negatrons and positrons is represented by an index whose values are found to be 2.0±0.1 and 1.72±0.05 respectively. These are found to be independent of the geometry of the experiment. The lower value of Z-dependence for positrons can be ascribed to their lower scattering cross-sections.
