The formation of silica W was investigated with oxidation of vapor silicon monoxide prepared by the reduction of silica by silicon or disproportionation of silicon monoxide. A small amount of silica W was prepared with disproportionation of silicon monoxide. In the case of the reduction of silica with silicon, the formation of silica W needed a degree of 10^<-3> atm over vacuum conditions. The silica W prepared was measured by EPMA, and the results obtained showed that nitrogen was included in silica W.
