Significant improvement of gray scale capability, faster response times, higher contrast ratio, and symmetrical display performance can be obtained in a new asymmetrical double-layered Guest Host nematic liquid crystal cell geometry. A theoretical model describing the electro-optical performance in the principal viewing zone is shown.
