A novel blue electroluminescent material, tris(2,3-methyl-8-hydroxyquinoline) aluminum complex (Alm_<23>q_3), was synthesized and used to fabricate a double-layer organic electroluminescent (EL) device as an emitting material. A device made of ITO-coated glass/triphenyldiamine derivative (TPD)/Alm_<23>q_3/Mg : Ag was fabricated, which emits bright blue light with a maximum luminance of 5390 cd/m^2 at 19 V.
