Self-mode-locked outputs were obtained from the second transversely excited atmosphere (TEA) section of a hybrid CO_2 laser with two TEA sections, by controlling tire gain of the cw section and discharge timing of the two TEA sections. The present self (passive)-mode locking was induced by the combination tone polarizations due to the beat note between two longitudinal modes from the first TEA section.
