Thermally stimulated current (TSC) spectra in the absence of optical excitation were measured in the temperature range from 180 to 320 K for p-terphenyl (PT) single crystals exposed to oxygen atmosphere. Two broad TSC peaks in the higher-temperature side above 230 K and a sharp structure near 200 K were observed. The two broad TSC peaks were found to have properties of pyroelectric current which appeared in a reversible manner whenever the sample is cooled and heated. The pyroelectric current is considered to originate from oxygen-PT complexes on the surface of the PT crystal. The origin of the sharp structure was attributed to a change in dielectric constant induced by a phase transition of PT crystal.
