A wideband optical modulator is designed by use of a laser beam and an electro-optic crystal. The reflections at the junctions of a travelling-wave velocity-matched bulk type modulator have been taken into consideration to formulate the modulation index. The frequency response characteristic features of the theoretical curve and the experimental points are rather similar up to 12 GHz.
