Ionization Potential of Ni Obtained from the Observation of High Rydberg Series

A series of the Rydberg states of Ni with quantum numbers n'=17 to 34 produced by a three-step selective excitation process using three tunable dye lasers are measured by a photoionization technique. It is found that the least squares fitting of the Rydberg-Ritz formula to the observed Rydberg series yields the ionization potential of E_i=61616.3 cm^<-1>±2.5 cm^<-1>.
