Forming Condition of Striped and Scrolled Texture in Cholesteric Liquid Crystals

In a wedge-shaped cell with homeotropic boundary conditions, the forming process of cholesteric textures is observed under a magnetic field. It is found that the type of cholesteric texture depends on the difference between the induced pitch in the cell and the equilibrium pitch of the sample.
