Thermoplastic (TP) plates have been used as a recording material for rewritable holographic stereograms (HSs). This novel application has made it possible to atutomatically control the entire process of HS synthesis without chemical development, showing that the developed HSs have high potential for 3-D display. The HS has been recorded on a TP plate of 76×76 mm^2 in 130 s, using a liquid crystal television panel as a spatial light modulator for ray-traced 30-frame images. The TP plate has the capability for multiple use (more than 20 times) for HS synthesis. A reconstructed image has been observed with a good stereoscopic effect by means of He-Ne laser illumination.
