A PIG type ion source for the Van de Graff accelerator has been developed for the production of (He^3)^<++> ion. Under good operating conditions, (He^3)^<++> ion current amounts to 3% (about 9 μA) of the (He^3)^+ ion current. The main emphasis in design in to produce the strong magnetic field in the arc chamber.
