Making use of the cells with Al or Au-counter electrode, transient phenomena in brightness of electroluminescent emission and in over-all current which is flowing through the cell are investigated under various conditions. Thin films used are of composition ZnS:Cu:Mn:Cl. From the observed facts it is confirmed that there exist two cases classified by the presence of so-called "forming" phenomena. It is also found out that these two cases are different from each other in the following points; i.e., the threshold voltage for the electroluminescent emission, the location of emitting spots, the voltage-current characteristic of the cell, and the transient response for the polarity reversal of the excitation voltage. Lastly, regarding the transient response for the polarity reversal of excitation voltage, a comparison between Thornton's and our results is described.
