Magnetic and crystallographic studies have been made on a number of new ferrimmagnetic calcium ferrites which have been obtained by modifying calcium diferrite (CaFe_4O_7) containing tri- or tetravalent metal ions. X-ray studies on the single crystals indicate that the space group of these crystals is R3^^-c and the lattice constants in the hexagonal unit cell are a_0=6.03±0.01 A and c_0=94.5±0.3 A. These compounds have a preferred plane perpendicular to the c-axis. It is shown that the mechanism of the magnetic saturation with increasing amounts of additives is closely connected with the stabilization of the crystal structures. The maximum values of magnetic moments are interpreted by considering the magnetic structure similar to Zn_2Y(Ba_2Zn_2Fe_<12>O_<22>). Mossbauer studies reveal two sublattices in the Fe^<3+> sites which cause ferrimagnetism of these compounds.
