The mechanism of dendritic growth of discharge, or "Treeing" in solid insulator was investigated and the following conclusions were obtained. In the first stage of "Treeing", there occurs pure electronic breakdown due to ionization by collision of electrons. In the second stage rupture of chemical bonds by electron collision occurs. Then the processes produce molecules of lower molecular weight or gas phase. The existence of these processes were confirmed in consequence of the growth of bubbles from "Treeing" by heating Plexiglas immediately after the occurrence of "Treeing" up to a temperature near its softening point.
