The precipitation of Cu-Be compounds from a supersaturated solid solution of the copper-2 percent beryllium alloy by ageing at a temperature lower than 400℃ was studied with a transmission electron microscope and by the X-ray diffraction method. The structures of precipitates, their orientation relationship, and the effects of dislocations, and grain boundaries on the precipitation process were investigated. The change of lattice constant of the alloy aged under various conditions was examined by the X-ray diffraction method, and the ageing conditions for different kinds of precipitate were determined.
