Single crystals of BaTiO_3 were grown from the TiO_2-rich side of the BaO-tiO_2 system. They were chunky crystal with mainly {111} form. However, these chunky crystals are obtained only under a reduced atmospheric pressure. An oxygen defect seems to have an effect on the crystal morphology. Curie point of the present crystals is about 128℃ and is a little higher than that of the BaTiO_3 butterfly crystals. Crystallographic data for the present crystals are a=3.993Å and c=4.037Å at room temperature (tetragonal perovskite-type structure).
