The photo-electrochemical effects of electrochromic cells on WO_3 electrodes are investigated. Electrochromic cells are fabricated using a WO_3 electrode, a transition metal oxide counter electrode and a propylenecarbonate solution of LiClO_4. The photovoltage can be detected when the cells are half or well bleached, but is undetectable with well colored ones. The photocurrent of the cell is anodic and about 0.6μA/cm^2 when illuminated by an Hg lamp, when a 1 M/l LiClO_4 electrolyte is used. These photo-effects are most likely due to the nature of the n-type WO_3 semiconductor.
