The present authors propose a new method for evaluation of electrostrictive materials for ultrasonic transducers. This method introduces a figure-of-merit A^2/r_1G_1 involving both electrical and mechanical terms where A is the force factor, r_1 is the mechanical internal resistance and G_1 is the damped conductance. In view of the use of the transducer, the electrostrictive materials can be evaluated by the dynamic mechanical stress dependences of the potential electroacoustic efficiency and the potential acoustic output power density which are derived from the figure-of-merit in relation to the fatigue fracture strength.
