The population densities of rotational levels of hydroxyl radicals (OH) were measured by the hook method on the premixed CH_4-O_2-N_2 flames with O_2/N_2=11/16. The rotational temperatures were estimated to be 2450, 2500 and 2600 K at 5 mm above the reaction zone for the equivalence ratios of 0.67, 0.80 and 0.95, respectively. The corresponding concentrations of OH, 2.0, 1,8 and 1.4×10^<-2> mole fractions are exactly equal to the equilibrium values calculated at the above rotational temperatures. The distribution of the OH density in the post reaction zone was also measured and the result is compared with a chemical kinetic calculation.
