The relation between the fractional value of the contact area of the paper surface under pressure and the wavelength is experimentally investigated. The fractional values for all paper samples are greatly increased, for example, by a factor of 4.5 for art paper under a pressure of 8 kg/cm^2, with a change of wavelength from 0.5 to 2.0 μm. The fractional values are well expressed by a Gaussian distribution of the logarithm of the wavelength. From the analysis of angular distributions of the reflected light from the prism surface in contact with the paper sample, some factors affecting the increase of the fractional value with wavelength are presented.
