The irradiance distributions in the images of extended objects like straight edge, clear slit and opaque bar have been studied for an aberration-free annular aperture in the pupil plane of the optical system operating under partially coherent illumination by following Hopkins' approach. The illuminating source, objects, apertures and obscurations are taken to be of infinite length and of finite width perpendicular to it. When the size of the central opaque stop is comparatively large to that of the illuminating slit, a dark fringe is obtained in the images of extended objects. The effect of the coherence parameter ρ and the obscuration ratio ε upon the irradiances at the geometric image of the edges, away from geometric image of the edges and at the center of the image has been discussed. The apparent-shift of the edges has also been discussed as functions of ρ and ε.
