Some of the interesting effects of the dielectrophoretic forces in liquids are described in this report. Thin metallic films (tin oxide film of thickness≈10^<-4> cm) are used as electrodes. It is proposed that the electric field is highly intense and non-uniform in the vicinity of the tin oxide film edge for applied voltages≈2 kV. Theoretical estimates are made in order to explain the observed results, namely, the creeping of liquids from the thin film edge, and motion of macroscopic air bubbles in the liquid (n-Hexane). It is suggested that the effect of dielectrophoretic forces is to change the surface tension in liquids. In one interesting demonstration type experiment, the size of the falling drop from a nozzle is found to decrease as a result of the eflect of dielectrophoretic forces. An observed spray of liquid from the nozzle of the tube under the effect of strong electric stresses can be utilised in explaining the processes involved in the electrical breakdown in insulating liquids.
