New Method for Ion Specification in a Steady State Magnetized Plasma

The H^+_1 and H^+_2 inside the bulk of a steady state magnetized plasma could be quantitatively measured without serious change in the plasma condition. An instantaneous axial gradient magnetic field is applied at the region under study along the axis. The particles are then accelerated towards the detecting system of the electrostatic analyzer where they reach at different times since they have the same energy but different masses. Both of the detector and the accelerator, producing the axial gradient magnetic field, are placed outside the plasma volume, therefore minimal and limited perturbing effect is introduced.
