The effect of filament magnetic fields on the emitted electrons is studied theoretically. It is shown that the effect is equivalent to the increase in the emittances of the output beams and it is not negligible in comparison with the emittances due to thermal motions at the cathodes and those due to the r.f. fields in the bunching sections of electron linear accelerators.
