Single crystal plates are stretched at liquid-nitrogen temperature and deformation twins are introduced. The strain distribution in the crystals is observed by the divergent x-ray method. By analysing the observed diffraction patterns the followings are made clear: 1) The elastic and plastic strain distributions within and around twin band are larger at the fringe part of single crystal plates than at the central part. 2) The surface layers of about 45μ of specimens are remarkably distorted. The rotation axes of the distorted crystals are nearly parallel to the directions of the <111> twinning shears with the deformation twins introduced. Moreover, their rotation angles determined from the distortion of the Laue-spot are about 10゜. 3) The directions of atom displacements are proved to be parallel to those or twinning slaears.
