In this study, numerical velocities obtained by directly integrating the Navier Stokes (NS) equation are compared with velocities measured by the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) method. The density driven current suddenly released by removing the partition wall is the subject of the study. The grids for numerical simulation completely coincide with the pixels for PIV method. Velocities by the numerical simulation agree well with by PIV method at measuring points which are as many as 10,000. The vorticies generated at the interface of density currents are in agreement between the numerical and experimental results. The reliability of the numerical simulation is fully established.
