Buckling of forward bottom plating were recently observed on some high speed cargo liners. These damages were investigated and more likely to be concluded as results of slamming. Since little is known about slamming especially few data are available both for experimental and statistical observation, the project for measuring the slamming of the actual ship was taken, to find the counter measures to avoid the damage due to slamming. The HODAKASAN MARU was assigened as vessel to take records on way to North America from Europe on ballasted condition of the vessel. The measurements of foward bottom panel stress, bow acceleration, midship upper deck stress and pitching angle were recorded in conjunction with sea condtions. About 250 slammings were observed at the various speed and direction of swell.
