On Manoeuvrability of Tractor-Type Cable Ship

To obtain high efficiency of cable laying operations, "tractor-type cable ship" was designed, which is equipped with a pair of vertical axis propellers near the bow. Because of this unconventional ship form and arrangement, confirmation of its manoeuvrability was essential from early stage of ship design. Experiments by use of a free-running model and full-scale ship trials were carried out to confirm manoeuvrability in ahead and astern runs. And it was assured that this ship form shows the expected steerability and fulfills the design requirements.
