The cargo vessel M/S "TERUKAWA MARU" was struck by a typhoon and went aground off Uozaki, east Kobe, 1964. The repair work on the damaged part, which covered nearly whole fore body including its double bottom structure, was carried out at Kawasaki Dockyard Co., Ltd., Kobe. Net steel weight for this repairs amounted approximately to 670 tons. As to the procedure of the repairs, the block system was adopted in order to minimize repair period and also docking period. The hired docking days, in consideration of time needed for the arrangement of materials and assembling blocks, and also from the viewpoint of effective use of the dock, were divided into four periods instead of continuous drydocking. Special attention was paid on the strength of the ship under repairs and the hull distortion was continuously measured and the adjustment was made by ballasting tanks. As the result of every check the maximum stress on the upper deck of the ship was 5.72kg/mm^2.
