At first the paper states the small experiment tank for the resistance of ship models at Kyushu Imperial University, and then it is proved that the formula (1) is reasonably applied to the calculation of the frictional resistance of model ship and that the total resistance of the ship, estimated by the Froude's method, using the formula (1) for model ship, and the formula (2) for the actual ship, is in excellent agreement with the towing experimental results of the actual ship. (1) : C_f=0.2416(log_<10>R)^<-2.3>, (2) : C_f×1.35,where [numerical formula] : mean frictional resistance coefficient, R=<vl>/v : Reynolds' number, f : frictional resistance of ship, v : speed of ship, l : length of ship, a : area of wetted surface of ship, ρ : density of surrounding water, υ : kinematic viscosity of surrounding water.
